Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins on Monday, January 18. This is a time when we especially remember the words of Jesus at the Last Supper: "That they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you" (Jn 17:21).

This year's Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is accompanied by a quotation from the Gospel of St. Matthew: "We saw His star in the East and we came to worship Him." It is Jesus who was anointed as the Messiah and came to earth to unite us.

If we Christians turn towards Jesus and walk towards Him together, then we will begin to draw closer to each other, until at last what we prayed for - we will be one with Him and the Father

During this time, believers of many different Christian traditions and denominations from around the world gather together to pray for unity. In Poland, the central ecumenical service will be held in the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene in Warsaw on Sunday, January 23.

The materials for this year's Prayer Week were prepared by the Middle East Churches Council.
